Educational status and awareness of dental health insurance in Department of dental hygiene

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to provide data to educate dental hygiene students for the efficient management of dental health insurance claim.
Methods: To collect data of the educational status and awareness of dental health insurance in department of dental hygiene, questionnaires were used to 78 departments of dental hygiene and 185 dental hygiene students of three conveniently selected schools.
Results: The subject of dental health insurance were offered in all of 57 three-year educational schools and 19 schools among 21 four-year schools. Mean training hours per week were 3.68 hours in 3-year courses and 3.75 hours in four-year courses. Regarding opening of the dental health insurance subject, 62.1% opens the subject at a semester and 34.5% opens the subject at two semester course at in 3-year courses. 85.7% opens the subject at a semester at four-year courses. Among 5 scores, the need of dental health insurance instruction were evaluated as 4.37; the satisfaction of teaching, 4.05. Regarding understanding of dental health insurance instruction, ‘yes’ was 3.40; 97.3% students wanted to take the management to the claim of dental health insurance after graduation. As the reason of taking the management to claim dental health insurance, the answer of dental hygienists’ duty was 55.0%. As the reason of no taking the management, the answer of ‘excessive work’ is 42.9%.
Conclusions: To manage efficiently claim of the dental health insurance, dental hygienists should take the duty of the management to claim dental health insurance during their paid working time, because dental hygienists studied dental health insurance as a subject in the college.
